Second Half Strikes Earn Middlesbrough Three Points
Middlesbrough secured back-to-back victories in the EFL Championship after a second half double allowed the Vertu Motors backed side to see off the challenge of Queens Park Rangers.
‘Boro had scored an impressive 3-1 win over Norwich in the previous game to maintain hopes of a push towards the play-offs but it was QPR who created the better chances in the first half – most notably when Ilias Chair got on the end of a through ball and tried to chip Seny Dieng only for the ‘keeper to turn his effort over the bar.
Goalless at half-time, Middlesbrough hit the front shortly after the hour mark when a free-kick into the box was turned back into the middle by Matt Clarke and Emmanuel Latte Lath steered a volley beyond Asmir Begovic and into the corner.
Having hit the front, Middlesbrough then doubled their advantage twelve minutes later when a break upfield led a cross from the right-hand side from Chris Willock that was headed in by Marcus Forss.
The victory means ‘Boro have climbed above North East rivals Sunderland into eleventh in the table and are eight points away from the top six, albeit with a game in hand on a number of the teams above them in the standings.
That game in hand comes with a trip to Birmingham before Blackburn Rovers head for the Riverside next weekend.
