Mazda6 To Make UK Return As BEV
The Mazda6 will return to the UK market in the first half of 2026 after the Japanese manufacturer unveiled a new BEV variant at the Brussels Motor Show.
The Mazda6e will be launched in left-hand drive markets later this year before hitting UK shores in early 2026 and will be offered with two different powertrain options.
A 68.8kWh battery will offer a range of up to 300 miles, and can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes, whilst an 80kWh battery will increase range to 345 miles and can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 45 minutes.
Both battery versions will support rapid charging, with the car including glowing signature wings around the grille that will appear to flutter when the car is charging.
Despite the ongoing move towards SUV models across the market, the Mazda6e will continue to blend a flowing exterior and sleek cabin design, with a low roofline that gives the car a sporty appearance whilst retaining the functionality that comes from a five-door hatchback.
The Mazda6e’s 19-inch wheels have a range-boosting aerodynamic design that features a sporty five-spoke design with flat black surfaces, whilst the rear of the car includes an electronically extendable rear spoiler that can be used to enhance stability at speed.
A 330-litre boot, excellent passenger space and 70-litre front boot ensure strong practicality for all manner of potential customers.
“The Mazda6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for,” Mazda UK managing director Jeremy Thomson said. “With a nod to the popularity of the Mazda6, it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology and style to battery electric vehicles.
“With the suspension, power steering and braking carefully calibrated by the team at Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to match European and UK preferences, I’m sure the Mazda6e will be an electric car that delivers the engaging driver experience you’d expect from Mazda.
“In the UK we are facing some unique and complex challenges in the balance between EV legislation and consumer demand but at Mazda we will introduce new models and ensure our product range fits the pace of actual consumer demand in the UK with technologies that are amongst the best in the market.
“When it arrives in UK showrooms in 2026, the Mazda6e will be a fantastic and timely addition to our multi-solution approach that includes mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric offerings.”
