Burnley Suffer Home Setback
Burnley suffered a setback in the fight to remain in the Premier League after the Vertu Motors-backed side slipped to a home defeat against Bournemouth.
The Clarets went into the match looking to end a run of three successive losses and had chances to take the lead early on, with Wilson Oderbert seeing a shot from the middle of the box saved by visiting ‘keeper Neto.
However, Bournemouth hit the front on 13 minutes after Justin Kluivert managed to turn Dara O’Shea before smashing a shot beyond James Trafford and into the net.
Odobert curled a shot wide before Jacob Bruun Larsen saw an effort blocked as Burnley chased an equaliser, with the Dane then firing in a free-kick from the edge of the box that Neto did well to keep out.
Vitinho then headed over the top before half-time as Burnley continued to threaten and it looked like the pressure had finally paid off when Josh Cullen turned the ball in – only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul by Bruun Larsen.
Despite having most of the ball and twice as many shots on goal, Burnley would suffer late on when a deflected effort from Antoine Semenyo beat Trafford to give the visitors all three points.
It leaves Burnley eleven points from safety heading into a trip to London this weekend to visit West Ham.
