Why is it important to choose the right tyres?
In the UK, fitting your vehicle with the correct tyres is not only a legal requirement but also essential for your safety on the road. It's crucial to choose the right size and tyre type for your Nissan, and to maintain the correct pressure recommended by the manufacturer.
Nissan offers tyres from trusted brands such as Goodyear, Bridgestone, Pirelli, and Continental. All are fitted by Nissan-trained technicians who know your car inside out.
How can I check my tyres?
Regularly checking your tyres is vital for your safety and it's easy to do this yourself at home.
1. Check tread depth
Your tyres must have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread. If the tread is too low, you could face a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points on your licence.
For your safety and to avoid penalties, it’s recommended that you replace your tyres before they reach the legal limit.
2. Check tyre pressure
Maintaining correct tyre pressure maximises tyre life, improves grip, and boosts fuel economy. Under-inflated tyres can wear more quickly and reduce performance. While over-inflated tyres can be more prone to damage.
If you see a tyre pressure warning on your dashboard, it’s a good idea to get them checked immediately.
3. Rotate your tyres
Rotating your tyres helps to even out wear and extends their lifespan. While it's ideal to replace all four tyres at once, the wear on front and rear tyres can differ.
Nissan recommends fitting new tyres on to the rear and moving the older tyres to the front, if possible.
