Vertu and Newcastle Eagles may be a local partnership but it is one that is shooting for success on a national level – and we’re proud to be working alongside the most successful team in the history of the British Basketball League to help grow the sport. We’re also proud to sponsor the club’s home, the Vertu Arena – a 3,500 capacity arena for sports, events and much more.
About Newcastle Eagles
Newcastle Eagles are the most successful club in British basketball history and have teams competing in both the British Basketball League and Women's British Basketball League.
The team has countless accolades to its name including multiples win in the BBL, BBL Cup, BBL Playoffs, and the BBL Trophy.
In the 2005-06 season, the men’s team secured a clean sweep by winning the BBL Cup, BBL Trophy and the Championship double – topping the league and then winning the post-season play-offs.
Eagles Community Foundation
The Eagles Community Foundation (ECF) started in 2006 with an aim to grow basketball participation in Tyneside, Wearside, and South East Northumberland.
The foundation runs programmes of activity to keep locals active, including:
- Little Dribblers
- Hoops 4 Health
- Club Development
- Eagles Central Venue League
- Newcastle Eagles Academy
- TyneMet College Academy
- Gateshead College Academy
The naming partnership allows us to promote the various car dealerships we have across the North East.
Vertu Arena
We have a five-year partnership with the Eagles which includes the naming of the stunning Vertu Arena.
This amazing community venue hosts up to 3,500 spectators and features live BBL games, which are also broadcast around the world.
The arena demonstrates the ECF's dedication to the local area and helps provide opportunity and access to sport for those who need it most.
