Yorkshire Slip To Defeat At Hove
Yorkshire missed out on victory in the latest round of fixtures in the County Championship after sliding to a defeat against Sussex at Hove.
Sussex were put in to bat first in the game and it looked to be the right call from Yorkshire captain Shan Masood as George Hill and Ben Coad ripped through the batting order.
When Coad removed Tom Clark for 16, Sussex were 42-1 but could only reach 150 before Jordan Thompson had James Coles caught by Masood to bring the innings to a close.
Yorkshire’s reply didn’t start well when Finlay Bean was out for just four and wickets would continue to tumble through to the end of play, although 67 from Joe Root allowed his side to take the lead going into day two.
From 176-7 overnight, Yorkshire progressed to 195 all out to take a lead of 149 and then restricted Sussex to 194-7 by the end of the day – with a dogged 77 not out from Tom Alsop providing the only real resistance.
Alsop progressed to 86 on the third morning as Sussex were eventually bowled out for 227, which left Yorkshire chasing 183 to secure victory.
Although the likes of Bean, Masood and George Hill were all removed without reaching double figures, Yorkshire looked to be moving towards their total as Adam Lyth hit 73 to take his side to within 25 runs of victory.
Ollie Robinson had other ideas however and removed Lyth, Jordan Thompson and Dom Leech without a run being added as Yorkshire slipped from 158-6 to 158-9 in a matter of overs.
Just three more runs were added before Coad was run-out as Sussex took victory just just 21 runs, leaving Yorkshire sitting seventh in the table.
