Won One, Lost One For Yorkshire
Yorkshire hold a record of one win and one defeat after the opening two games of the new One Day Cup campaign.
The Vertu Motors-backed side kicked things off with a trip to the Oval to face Surrey in a match that would ultimately be decided on the Duckworth Lewis method as a result of various rain delays.
Yorkshire went in to bat first having lost the toss, and overcame the early loss of Finlay Bean to post a solid total of 240-6 from 33 overs, with Will Luxton top scoring with 83.
George Hill also impressed with a quickfire half century, whilst Matthew Revis smashed 36 from 15 balls – including four sixes – late on in the innings.
Surrey lost opener Dom Sibley in the first over of their reply and it was the Yorkshire bowlers who took control, with George Hill and Dom Leach both grabbing three wickets.
It meant Surrey were facing an uphill battle in the closing stages of the innings and fell 25 runs short of the required target as Yorkshire grabbed the win.
Next up was a trip to Nottinghamshire at the Welbeck Cricket Club, where Ben Coad ripped through the top order to leave the home side on 24-3 – grabbing two wickets in the opening over of the match.
Coad also removed Matthew Montgomery as he secured impressive figures of 4-14 from ten overs, with Nottinghamshire thankful to Lydon James, who shared partnerships with both Tom Moores and Liam Patterson-White that helped to guide their side to 209 all out.
Although Yorkshire’s reply didn’t start as badly, it wasn’t much better as both Luxton and Shan Masood were dismissed in the first two overs, and a further three fell by the end of the tenth.
Coad would prove to be the top scorer with the bat and was the only person to break 30 as wickets fell at regular intervals, with Brett Hutton starring with 6-38 as Yorkshire were skittled out for 126 to give Notts a comfortable win.
