Weather Frustrates Nottinghamshire In Latest Draw
Nottinghamshire were left to wonder what might have been after being held to a draw in a heavily rain-affected game with Worcestershire.
The Vertu Motors-backed side headed for New Road looking to rebound from a loss against Hampshire but the opening day of action would be washed out without a ball being bowled after heavy rain overnight.
Play finally got underway on the second day following a minute’s applause in memory of young Worcestershire bowler Josh Baker following his death earlier this month.
Bowling first, Nottinghamshire removed openers Jake Libby and Ed Pollock in quick succession, with Luke Fletcher and Dillon Pennington ripping through the top order.
The pair took three wickets apiece as Worcestershire were bowled out for just 80 in little over 30 overs, with Nottinghamshire then racing into the lead as Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater almost reached that total with a first wicket stand of 77.
Slater was dismissed for 41 before Will Young fell for two shortly afterwards, but Joe Clarke then came to the crease to join Hameed and the pair put on 147 for the third wicket before Hameed was tapped LBW having reached his century.
Sitting on 243-3 overnight, Nottinghamshire were in a strong position to go on and win the match but more rain saw the third day washed out before day four was also canned – leaving Notts to settle for eleven points for a draw.
