Volvo Introduces New Black Edition for Selected Models
The new Black Edition brings a stylish monochrome look to some of the brand’s most popular vehicles.
- Volvo has announced a new Black Edition for three of its models. These are the fully electric EC40 and EX40, and the mild-hybrid petrol XC40
- Highlights of the Black Edition package include Onyx Black paint, 20” high-gloss black alloy wheels, and a black grille and badging
- The EC40 and EX40 Black Edition models are also available with a new 442hp Twin Motor Performance powertrain
Volvo has had a busy month so far, with the XC90 being named Best Seven-Seater at the Auto Trader New Car Awards. As well as the relaunch of the V60 and V90 estates.
Among this string of recent updates also comes the reveal of a new Black Edition for the EC40, EX40, and XC40 models.

Monochrome exterior style
As its name suggests, the new Black Edition uses a dark colour theme to make a bold style statement.
All-black styling features include:
- Onyx Black paintwork
- High-gloss front grille
- Volvo emblem and tailgate
- 20” five-spoke, high-gloss alloy wheels
Along with the Black Edition package, customers can also choose from two equipment upgrades. These are Plus, and Ultra, with both offering an enhanced driving experience.
The Plus upgrade includes more luxurious features like a heated steering wheel and outer rear seats. Parking sensors make parking easier than ever, while a Connect suede textile/microtech upholstery adds a high-end feel.
Meanwhile, the range-topping Ultra model offers advanced technology. Features include a 360-degree parking camera and adaptive pixel LED headlights. With a 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, it also offers crisp acoustics.
New powertrain options
The new Black Edition is not just about style, but also efficiency. In addition to the RWD 252hp Single Motor Extended Range powertrain, Volvo has launched a new Twin Motor Performance version.
This is available for the fully electric EC40 and EX40 models, offering up to 442hp and more responsive acceleration. Performance drive mode also allows drivers to enjoy a more powerful, refined drive.
Meanwhile, the XC40 Black Edition is available with either B3 or B4 mild-hybrid powertrains. These combine a petrol engine with an electric motor and offer 163hp and 197hp.
With a head-turning style and high-performance powertrains, the Black Edition package offers more than just a new look.
