Volvo EX90 Crowned 2025 World Luxury Car at the World Car Awards

The all-electric Volvo EX90 has officially been named the 2025 World Luxury Car at this year’s World Car Awards, reaffirming Volvo's place at the forefront of premium sustainable mobility. Announced ahead of the New York International Auto Show, the award recognises the EX90’s refined blend of advanced technology, elegant design, and luxurious comfort, all wrapped in a package that’s as safe as it is stylish.

Chosen by a jury of 96 expert automotive journalists from 30 countries, the EX90 emerged as the standout in a competitive field of high-end contenders. Judges praised the EX90 as “the most impressive new luxury car launched in the past 12 months,” with acclaim for its Scandinavian design ethos, next-gen safety systems, and exceptionally serene ride quality.

With its confident yet smoothly rounded silhouette, the EX90 is a masterclass in form following function. Flush elements, refined aerodynamics, and thoughtful proportions make it not only beautiful but also highly efficient. Even the lidar sensor (essential for the vehicle’s cutting-edge safety features) is seamlessly integrated into the roofline for both form and function.

Under the hood, or rather under the sleek electric shell, the EX90 boasts 510 horsepower from its twin-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Test drives left jurors impressed with the EX90’s powerful yet whisper-quiet ride, delivering pure electric performance with zero compromise on comfort.

This award marks Volvo Cars’ third win at the World Car Awards, building on its 2018 World Car of the Year win for the XC60 and the 2024 World Urban Car title for the EX30. It also reinforces the legacy of Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson, who was recognised as the inaugural World Car Person of the Year in 2018.

Reacting to the win, Samuelsson shared:

“We’re pleased to see the EX90 get the recognition it truly deserves. It was up against some tough competition, but this award proves that the EX90 appeals to some of the most demanding customers across the world.”
