Volkswagen's Iconic Campervan Has a New Look - Meet the New California
The new campervan is the most innovative California yet and will be available to order from June.
- The New California is based on the Volkswagen Multivan.
- For the first time, it will be available as a plug-in hybrid with an all-wheel drive system.

Since its release in 1988, the Volkswagen California has become an iconic campervan. Over 280,000 vans have rolled off the production line and now it's time to say hello to the New California.
The van has been given a complete overhaul to create the most spacious, smartest, and innovative California yet.

The first plug-in hybrid California
For the first time, the California van is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. This means you can travel short distances using electric only power to lower your emissions. It also gives the New California a maximum trailer weight of up to 2,000kg making it the ideal travel companion for all.

Whichever trim level you choose, all are equipped with a pop-up roof and two sliding doors. This makes loading and unloading effortless from both sides, and you can also open the sides of the van to create an open-air terrace.
Taking design inspiration from the iconic Volkswagen Bulli, you can enjoy a range of stylish two-tone paint finishes. There are a wide range of colour options on offer, with seven different alloy wheel options.
