Volkswagen Launches New Livery To Celebrate 50 Years Of The Polo
Volkswagen has taken the covers off a special race livery that it will use throughout 2025 to celebrate 50 years of the Polo.
Launched back in 1975, the Polo is now in its sixth generation having been one of the best-selling models around the globe for a number of years.
As part of the celebrations of 50 years of the Polo, Volkswagen invited people to vote on a special livery to feature on a various championship-winning Polo cars for what the manufacturer referred to as ‘thrilling, birthday-related activities’.
The Polo was driven by Sebastien Ogier to the World Rally Championship title from 2013-2016, with Johan Kristoffersson driving a Polo to the World Rallycross crown no fewer than six times.
The winning design was revealed on a replica of Kristoffersson’s car in an event at Bicester Motion and is inspired by the Polo Harlequin that was released in the 1990s featuring multi-coloured body panels.
“The Polo is a model that resonates with so many people for different reasons,” Mike Orford, Head of PR and Communications at Volkswagen UK, said.
“They might have been fans of the Polo rally cars as they dominated world championships over the years, their parents might have owned a Mk1 or Mk2 Polo, or it might have been the car in which they learned to drive.
“Whatever the reason, the Polo is a special and enduring model for Volkswagen and that’s why it is great when we get to celebrate these milestone moments in such a colourful way.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing this one-off livery in action later in the year as the birthday celebrations really ramp up.”
