- The Park is one of fifteen National Parks in the UK which have teamed up with BMW to form the ‘Recharge in Nature Project’
- The wider project aims to improve electric vehicle charging facilities throughout the UK’s most popular parks for visitors and support biodiversity and conservation
- One of the key initiatives in the North Yorkshire Moors is The Young Rangers volunteering scheme aimed at 11-17-year-olds
The growth of electric vehicles (EVs) has shown that a sustainable future of motoring is more than possible. Though the road to greener mobility doesn’t end there.
BMW has formed a partnership with National Parks UK called The Recharge in Nature Project, which will help solidify the automotive industry’s role in achieving a more sustainable future.

Recharge in Nature
The Recharge in Nature project is a three-year partnership between the two organisations, and its aims are two-fold.
The first is to expand the public charging network for electric vehicles across the National Parks which are currently ‘charging deserts’, through The Recharge Programme. This branch of the project will see more electric vehicle charging points added across all 15 National Parks to improve accessibility for those travelling in an electric vehicle.
So far, there have been public charging points installed in three National Parks, including the Lake District, the Peak District, and Dartmoor.
At North Yorkshire’s Sutton Bank visitor centre, there have also been three new chargers installed.
The second aim of the project is The Recharge in Nature Fund, through which BMW is supporting local initiatives related to biodiversity, restoration, and wellbeing. Five key schemes have been agreed for 2023 with a further 10 to be commissioned throughout the partnership:
- Loch Lomond & The Trossachs
- ‘Green Water’ in Eryri
- ‘The Community Engagement Programme’in Dartmoor
- ‘Dew Ponds Restoration’ in South Downs
- ‘Wild Leaders’ in The North Yorkshire Moors
Wild Leaders
Lending our support to the wider project, Vertu Motors are supporting the ‘Wild Leaders’ programme in the North Yorkshire Moors. This consists of The Young Rangers Scheme - a volunteering initiative aimed at 11-17-year-olds.
The scheme aims to make volunteering accessible to younger residents within local towns and cities, allowing them to volunteer in the National Park.
While encouraging younger volunteers to become more involved with the Park’s conservation, the scheme will also contribute to mental and physical well-being.
The North Yorkshire Moors is home to a stunning moorland landscape, complete with coastal views, ancient woods, and quaint villages.
The views over the Vale of Mowbray and Vale of York from Sutton Bank are generally unmatched, with a host of local wildlife and fascinating species residing there.
