Tough Month Continues For Plymouth
A difficult month in the EFL Championship for Plymouth Argyle continued as the Vertu Motors-backed side slipped to a fourth successive home defeat.
That run of results had seen Argyle fail to score and it would prove to be a familiar story against a Preston North End side led by former boss Ryan Lowe – who led the Pilgrims to promotion to League 1 during his stint in charge.
Plymouth had early half-chances before Preston should have hit the front through substitute Liam Millar – who put his effort wide when well placed.
The visitors continued to put pressure on Michael Cooper’s goal and the breakthrough came just before the break when a cross from Liam Lindsay was flicked on by Will Keane, and Millar smashed in at the back post.
Mustapha Bundu flashed a header wide before half-time but that would prove to be the closest the home side would come to an equaliser, despite Morgan Whittaker having a second half half-chance.
Argyle were however unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Ryan Hardie appeared to be felled in the box by Andrew Hughes, with the defeat meaning the gap to the relegation zone is now two points after Huddersfield Town grabbed a point against bottom side Rotherham.
Plymouth now face a trip to Norwich on Good Friday before Bristol City visit Home Park on Easter Monday.
