The Art of Jaguar: A Legacy of Design, Performance, and Innovation

  • Jaguar offers a lineup that blends iconic design with cutting-edge technology.
  • There is something for everyone in the range, from thrilling sports cars to performance SUVs.
  • Learn about the stories behind some of Jaguar’s most popular models.

Jaguar icons

  • The most expensive Jaguar sold for a staggering $21,780,000 at auction in California in 2016. The 1955 Jaguar D-Type was the winner of the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans. The model was intact, in its original condition when it was sold.
  • It is rumoured that Enzo Ferrari called the Jaguar E-TYPE "the most beautiful car ever made".
  • The NYC MoMa museum recognised the significance of the E-TYPE’s design by adding a blue E-TYPE Roadster to its design collection. This is one of only three cars to ever feature in the collection.
  • The unmistakable sound of the Jaguar F-TYPE V8 has been preserved in the British Library. The distinctive notes have been recorded for future generations as Jaguar steers to an all-electric future.

Jaguar materials

Jaguar's commitment to quality craftsmanship extends to every detail, including the immaculate paintwork. To achieve this, a unique process utilises ostrich feathers – specifically those from female birds. Their naturally soft texture gently removes any dust particles, ensuring a flawless finish.

The luxurious interiors of Jaguar vehicles are a testament to quality materials. Leather is sourced from Scottish cattle breeds such as Highland, Galloway, and Aberdeen.

Supercar icon: the XJ220

A legend among 1990s supercars, the XJ220 rivalled icons like Ferrari's F40 and Lamborghini's Diablo.

Briefly holding the title of the fastest car, with a 213mph top speed in 1992, the XJ220 bowed to the McLaren F1, another automotive masterpiece.

With only 275 produced, the XJ220 became a true Jaguar rarity, with the first hitting roads in June 1992 priced at a staggering £470,000.

The XJ220's inception is a fascinating story. A group of Jaguar employees, the "Saturday Club," dedicated their free time to this project, proving a supercar could be born from passion.

Lift the lid: F-TYPE

Jaguar F-TYPE

Bonnet

The F-TYPE embodies Jaguar's iconic sports car design. It features a long, dramatic clamshell bonnet unlike any other. European regulations mandate space between the bonnet and underlying components. However, raising the F-TYPE's bonnet would ruin its sleek profile.

Engineers have worked to ensure safety without compromising design through a unique system. Hidden under the bonnet are pyrotechnic discs that deploy in a pedestrian collision. They raise the bonnet 20mm, creating a crucial air cushion between the aluminium and the engine, for added protection. Active only at specific speeds, this system earned Jaguar a Traffic Safety Improvement Award.

Convertible

Convertibles typically rely on a cross brace for structural strength, but this disrupts a sleek design.

To maintain the F-TYPE's iconic look, engineers have developed a solution that eliminates the need for a cross brace.

The result? A stunning Jaguar convertible that's also the stiffest ever built. Offering an exhilarating driving experience.

Lift the lid: F-PACE

Jaguar F-PACE

Suspension

The F-PACE, Jaguar's first performance SUV, had high standards to meet. To deliver the signature Jaguar driving experience, engineers utilised a unique wheel and tyre setup. This allowed for wider 22-inch, 295-section rear tyres. These boost road contact and maximise traction from the powerful 5L supercharged V8. Stability is also enhanced while maintaining comfort thanks to the advanced multi-link suspension.

The multi-link system separates the handling of lateral and longitudinal forces. For sharp cornering and smooth on-road comfort.

The SVR underwent rigorous testing across diverse terrains. From bumpy Warwickshire roads to the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Exhaust

The Jaguar F-PACE SVR's exhaust endured a 1,000-hour process to achieve the perfect resonance for the P575 engine. It features an active exhaust system and a bespoke resonator design with special sound chambers.

These chambers "break in" over time, creating an evolving exhaust note that matures and deepens over the first 3,000 miles. Like a fine wine, the F-PACE SVR's exhaust gets even better with age.

Rear bumper

The F-PACE SVR's rear diffuser delivers a significant 35% reduction in rear lift and a 3% drag reduction.

Lift the lid: I-PACE

Jaguar I-PACE

Acoustics

Jaguar collaborated with Guide Dogs for the Blind to refine the I-PACE's Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) sound.

Heritage

The Jaguar I-PACE features a subtle nod to its heritage racing legacy with a recurring diamond motif. Look closely to find it in the front grille apertures, seat trim, and even the headlights.

Endurance

The I-PACE's impressive range has been proven in two ways:

  • A single-charge journey from London to Brussels.
  • Repeatedly scaling the equivalent height of Mount Everest by driving up and down Great Dun Fell, the UK's highest paved road.

James Bond

Borrowing design cues from the iconic CX-75, which featured in the James Bond film, Spectre, the I-PACE boasts a sleek, cab-forward profile. This aerodynamic efficiency is exemplified by the floating rear spoiler, eliminating the need for a rear wiper.
