smart Gives European Premiere To New #5

smart has given a European debut to the new #5, which is set to arrive in the UK later this year as the first premium mid-size all-electric SUV offered by the brand to date.

The #5 will be the third all-electric model to be made available after the #1 and the #3, and is set to be the most versatile and spacious car to be offered by smart so far.

Customers in the UK will be able to choose from a wide range of different options when it comes to battery options, with the entry level #5 Pro coming with a 76 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and models from the #5 Pro+ and beyond featuring a 100 kWh lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide battery – offering a range of up to 366 miles (WLTP).

Dual-motor, all-wheel drive versions will also be available with certain higher specification models.

“We are proud to launch the smart #5 as our first-ever mid-size family SUV in Europe, built on an advanced 800V platform for superior efficiency and performance,” Dirk Adelmann, CEO of smart Europe, said.

“As our most versatile model to date, the smart #5 combines range, usability, and future-proof technology. This milestone showcases our international team’s innovation and engineering expertise.”

Whilst smart has traditionally been known for smaller vehicles, the #5 will come with no fewer than 34 different storage compartments, with a 72-litre ‘frunk’ under the bonnet and up to 1,530 litres of space in the rear once the seats have been put down.

The #5 will come with an impressive 25.6-inch Augmented Reality head-up display alongside a 10.25-inch Full HD digital instrument cluster, and two 13-inch OLED centre and passenger screens.

Optimised EV routing will aid drivers, whilst advanced safety features include V-shaped curtain airbags, cushion airbags, and seat-integrated seat belts. Adaptive cruise control and highway assist will be offered across the range.

The #5 will be available to order in the UK in the final quarter of the year, with pricing still to be confirmed.
