Renault Reveals More Details of 5 Turbo Reboot

Renault has revealed more details of the modern incarnation of the Renault 5 Turbo, which it is now confirmed will arrive in showrooms in 2027.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is being developed by the French manufacturer in collaboration with Alpine, and will offered in strictly limited numbers – with 1,980 cars set to be produced.
That number is in homage to the original Renault 5 Turbo, which was launched back in 1980 and is widely regarded as one of the most iconic models of the era – with original mark one cars now being sold for six figure sums.
“By creating the new category of electric 'mini-supercars' with the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, the Renault brand once again demonstrates the passion and spirit of boldness and innovation that has always driven it,” Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive said.
“This exuberant, over-excited model promises the best performance and sensations in just four meters of length, which is unprecedented in the market. With this car, Renault continues to make electric vehicles ever more desirable, further extending its ability to provide solutions for every need and every desire.”
Inspired by the original car, the. Renault 5 Turbo 3E has been designed to be aggressive in appearance with a wide body and rear wing, all of which has been optimised to be as aerodynamic as possible to maximise efficiency.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is built on a new platform specifically developed for rear-wheel drive architecture and is larger than the standard model as a result – blending the length of a city car with the width of a supercar.
The new platform has been designed by Alpine in order to deal with 4,800 Nm or torque, with a low centre of gravity allowing expert engineers to fine tune the suspension to improve handing, with weight being kept low thanks to the fact that the car features extensive use of carbon in the bodywork
The two-door, two-seater car comes with 20-inch wheels that are each fitted with an electric motor and is expected to offer a 0-100 km/h time of under 3.5 seconds and a range of more than 400km.
“The Renault 5 Turbo 3E, the most powerful and highest-performance road-going model ever offered by the Group, is a fantastic opportunity for Alpine to demonstrate its expertise in engineering, architecture and the development of electric sports cars, serving agility and driving sensations,” Alpine CEO Philippe Krief said.
“This model is also a vector of innovation, as are the wheel motors, demonstrating our quest for excellence and innovation for the electric vehicles of tomorrow.”
Reservations will open ‘soon’ for the limited run of new cars.
