Range Rover Electric Unveils Latest Performance Results
Range Rover has unveiled its highly anticipated electric prototype - marking a pivotal step in the evolution of luxury SUVs.
Combining cutting-edge technology with its signature sophistication, the Range Rover Electric aims to set a new standard for capability, refinement, and sustainability.
As an electric vehicle, one of the major challenges facing the Range Rover Electric is extremes in temperature. Range Rover Electric prototypes are advancing through prolonged desert driving in the United Arab Emirates. Working in temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius and up to 90 per cent humidity. The Range Rover Electric took on Dubai’s greatest desert hill climb, scaling 300ft dune formations multiple times with ease.
This electric model retains the modernist design language synonymous with the Range Rover brand. Showcasing a sleek, uncamouflaged exterior that signals meticulous craftsmanship. As the quietest and most refined Range Rover yet, it blends near-silent propulsion with advanced engineering. Including a new traction control system that enhances performance on icy or low-grip terrains.
This Intelligent Torque Management system takes the challenges of desert terrain without fault. Handling it so well, in fact, it has surpassed the thermal testing performance of any Range Rover recorded on sand. A new Thermal Management system has been added too. Intelligently controlling heat distribution around the vehicle, performing excellently in the extreme heat.
“A hot climate is one of the most challenging for any battery electric vehicle, because of the need to cool the cabin and optimise battery performance at the same time. The additional challenge of driving on sand requires controlled low‑speed torque, so our specially developed traction control and thermal management systems work in harmony to ensure power delivery is unaffected. Our tests have shown that in this climate, repeatedly driving the equivalent of 100 metres uphill on fine sand, Range Rover Electric matches the performance of its ICE equivalents; in some instances, even surpassing them – thanks to the introduction of these new features,” said Thomas Mller, Executive Director, Product Engineering.
Jaguar Land Rover charts its path towards an electrified future. The Range Rover Electric serves as a bold testament to its legacy of combining innovation with luxury. The first units are set to hit the market soon, continuing the Range Rover tradition of delivering premium vehicles designed for both rugged adventures and sophisticated urban life. It’s time to bring Range Rover’s ‘go anywhere’ mantra to its electric vehicles.
