Plymouth Suffer Defeat Against Former Boss
Plymouth Argyle sit two points clear of the drop zone with two matches left to play in the EFL Championship after a three-game unbeaten run came to end against Stoke.
The Vertu Motors-backed side headed to the bet365 Stadium to face off against the team led by former boss Steven Schumacher seeking to move further away from the relegation zone, but would endure a tough afternoon as the home side themselves moved closer to safety.
After a relatively tight opening half, it looked like the game would be goalless at the break but Stoke then struck twice in a matter of minutes to gain the advantage.
Josh Laurent was able to find Ki-Jana Hoever with a through ball and he managed to beat Michael Cooper to give Stoke the lead – and the ‘keeper was beaten again just two minutes later when Million Manhoef smashed in a shot from the edge of the box.
After the break, it was Stoke who continued to create the better chances, with Cooper being the busier of the two ‘keepers as he pulled off a number of saves to keep Argyle in the game.
However, there was nothing he could do in injury time when Wouter Berger added a third to wrap up the points.
Next up for the Pilgrims is a trip to Millwall this weekend, before the season ends at home to Hull City.
