Plymouth See Off Luton For Second Straight Home Win
Plymouth Argyle secured a second successive home win in the EFL Championship with an impressive victory over recently relegated Luton Town at Home Park.
Wayne Rooney’s side had secured three points in the league for the first time this season a fortnight earlier against Sunderland thanks to a last gasp goal from Joe Edwards before being narrowly beaten by another promotion-chasing side in the shape of WBA.
After a tough start to the season, Luton arrived on the back of two successive wins but it was Argyle who took the early advantage in the game when Rami Al Hajj curled in his first goal for the club after just eight minutes.
Michael Obafemi then missed a great chance to extend the lead shortly afterwards before Al Hajj saw a shot saved by Thomas Kaminski as the Pilgrims took control of proceedings.
Luton did however start to create chances as the half wore on, most notably when Lewis Gibson put in a last gasp block to deny Elijah Adebayo – but it was Argyle who held the lead at half-time.
The visitors continued to push hard after the break as Dan Grimshaw was called into action more than once but instead it was Plymouth who went further clear when Ibrahim Cissoko doubled the advantage after smart play from Darko Gyabi.
The home fans were unable to celebrate for long as Luton went straight up the other end from the kick-off to get one back through Victor Moses and despite pushing hard to find an equaliser, it was instead Plymouth who had the better chances.
Adam Randell fired a shot against the crossbar late on in the quest for a third, which arrived in stoppage time when Cissoko added his second to confirm three points that left his side to 16th in the table.
