Plymouth Face Nervy Finish After Millwall Loss
Plymouth Argyle face a nervy finish to the EFL Championship season at Home Park after a late defeat on the road at Millwall.
The Pilgrims headed into the final away game of the season looking to bounce back from a defeat to Stoke in the previous match, with three points being vital in the battle to beat the drop.
Given the importance of the occasion, Plymouth pushed for early chances, with star man Morgan Whittaker firing over the bar before Mustapha Bundu forced Matija Sarkic to make a smart save.
Whittaker then had a further chance to put the visitors in front before Millwall had chances of their own – with Michael Cooper keeping the score level.
As the game wore on, both sides continued to create opportunities to break the deadlock but it was Millwall who eventually managed to make pressure pay.
A cross from Ryan Leonard was met in the box by Jake Cooper and his header was good enough find a way into the net to secure all three points, with a win for Sheffield Wednesday meaning Argyle have slipped to 21stin the table.
With Birmingham City one point behind and Huddersfield three points back, Argyle need to win against Hull this weekend to secure a second season in the division, with any other result taking safety out of their hands.
