Plymouth Earn FA Cup Replay With Leeds Draw
Plymouth Argyle remain in the mix as far as the 2024 FA Cup is concerned after taking fellow EFL Championship side Leeds United a fourth round replay.
Argyle headed for Yorkshire looking to become the first visiting side to win at Elland Road this season, despite the fact that the Vertu Motors-backed side have found the going tough away from Home Park so far.
Leeds had the best chances early on as Jaidon Anthony and Wilf Gnoto both struck the woodwork – the latter after Connor Hazard reacted well to tip a shot onto the bar.
Hazard made a number of smart saves to deny the home side, but it was Leeds who eventually hit the front when the dangerous Anthony cut in off the wing and curled a fine shot into the far corner with the ‘keeper well beaten.
Argyle fought back after the break however, with Ryan Hardie almost bringing the Pilgrims level when he chipped a shot over the goalkeeper only to see Sam Byram head the ball away off the line.
Plymouth did get on the score sheet when Mustapha Bundu played in Adam Randell to slide in the equaliser, with Hazard then pulling off fine saves to deny Patrick Bamford and Ilia Gruev as Leeds chased a winner.
The pair will now meet again at Home Park on 6 February for the right to meet Chelsea or Aston Villa in the fifth round.
