Nottinghamshire Sign Off With Home Draw
Nottinghamshire brought the curtain down on the County Championship season with a draw at home to Warwickshire that confirmed a place in Division One next year.
The Vertu Motors-backed side – as well as the opposition – went into the game looking to secure safety, with Lancashire bidding to try and move out of the relegation zone with a positive result against Worcestershire.
The opening day of play Trent Bridge saw little more than 15 overs of action due to rain, with Nottinghamshire losing two early wickets as Haseed Hameed and Ben Slater were both dismissed.
Play was then delayed on the second day before Notts lost a third wicket to leave the score on 55-3, with Jack Haynes coming to the crease to join Freddie McCann.
The pair combined to put on 127 for the fourth wicket before Haynes was caught for 47, with McCann and Kyle Verreynne then combing to add a further 98 before McCann was finally dismissed for 130 having been caught out by a yorker from Craig Miles.
Lyndon James followed soon afterwards, but Verreynne and Rob Lord helped to take the score beyond 300 to earn a second bonus point and ease any relegation fears, with play ending with the score on 324-6.
Verreynne would go on to complete his maiden century on the third day as he posted an impressive 148 not out from 167 balls as Notts were eventually bowled out for 487.
Lancashire being bowled out for 177 in their game meant the threat of relegation no longer loomed over the game, with Warwickshire moving to 143-4 by the end of the day and the game would eventually peter out as a draw on the final day as Warwickshire progressed to 373-7 thanks to a century from Sam Hain.
Nottinghamshire the end the season eighth in the standings.
