Nottinghamshire Recover For Two Wins From Three
Nottinghamshire bounced back from a tough start to the Metro Bank One Day to score back-to-back wins and earn a record of two victories from the first three games.
The 50 over campaign kicked off with a trip to Leicester to face the defending champions, and it would prove to be a difficult affair the home side were put in to bat first.
Lewis Hill top scored with 81 whilst Sol Budinger and Ajinkya Rahane both hit half centuries as Leicestershire racked up 396-6.
That left Nottinghamshire chasing a huge total for victory before the total was revised after rain – with the visitors stuck on 50-0 and now chasing a target of 105 from 3.5 overs.
Ben Slater and Freddie McCann both retired so Nottinghamshire could chase the revised target but Jack Haynes and Lydon James were both out first ball to immediately leave the score at 50-4.
Only Tom Moores made a meaningful contribution with 23 not out as Nottinghamshire reached 89-6 to lose by 15 runs under the Duckworth Lewis method.
Returning to home soil, Nottinghamshire fielded first against Sussex after the visitors won the toss and elected to bat.
Fynn Hudson-Prentice top scored with 90 but was ploughing a lone furrow for much of the innings as three wickets each for Luke Fletcher and Toby Pettman helped to bowl Leicestershire out for 216 in the 48th over.
McCann and Haynes fell in the opening four overs to leave Notts on 8-2 in their reply but Slater and captain Haseeb Hameed took control as they shared a fine partnership of 209 to steer their side to 217-2 and victory with nearly nine overs to spare – Slater hitting 107 and Hameed managing 101.
Next up was another home tie for the visit of Yorkshire, where Ben Coad ripped through the top order to leave Notts on 24-3 – grabbing two wickets in the opening over of the match.
Coad also removed Matthew Montgomery as he secured impressive figures of 4-14 from ten overs, with Nottinghamshire thankful to Lydon James, who shared partnerships with both Tom Moores and Liam Patterson-White that helped to guide their side to 209 all out.
Although Yorkshire’s reply didn’t start as badly, it wasn’t much better, as both Luxton and Shan Masood were dismissed in the first two overs, and a further three fell by the end of the tenth.
Coad would prove to be the top scorer with the bat and was the only person to break 30 as wickets fell at regular intervals, with Brett Hutton starring with 6-38 as Yorkshire were skittled out for 126 to give Notts a comfortable win.
