Nottinghamshire picked up a first win of the season in the T20 Blast having been forced to battle the weather in the most recent round of fixtures.

The Vertu Motors-backed side had suffered five successive defeats to start the group stage but Worcestershire themselves weren’t in the best of form themselves – leaving the game wide open.

Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bowl first, with captain Joe Clarke putting faith in his bowlers to try and restrict the home side at New Road.

Those bowlers delivered under dark skies, with Brett D’Oliveira, Matthew Waite and Josh Cobb all removed for single figures to leave the Worcestershire on 25-3 early in the sixth over.

Ethan Brookes also fell cheaply before Adam Hose and Nathan Smith put on 69 to guide their side into three figures, although it was very much advantage Nottinghamshire when the innings drew to a close at 141-6 with Cavin Harrison and Ben Lister having both grabbed two wickets.

With rain in the air, Nottinghamshire kicked off their reply away of the need to stay ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis method in the event of rain.

Joe Clarke was bowled with the score on 30 but an unbeaten 50 from Alex Hales helped to steer his side to 100-3 at the end of the 15th over– a lead of just one run under the DLS rules.

When the weather then brought the game to an early end with the final five overs not being possible, it meant Notts picked up the points to end the winless run.

Nottinghamshire returned to Trent Bridge aiming to build on that win but rain delayed the start against Durham in a game that was reduced to 17 overs a side as a result.

Once play got underway, Durham’s opening pair Alex Lees and Graham Clark went on the attack to smash 58 from the first five overs before a heavy rain shower left the pitch unplayable and forced the game to be abandoned.

A single point for the no result leaves Notts sitting ninth in the northern group with half of their 14 games completed, although the wide open nature of the group so far means qualification for the next stage remains possible.
