Nissan Micra To Return Amongst Expanded EV Range

Nissan has confirmed that the Micra will return to UK roads later this year as an all-new EV as the company continues to push ahead with its plans for an electrified future.

The sixth-generation of the Micra will replace the model that exited production back in 2023 and will be based on the same platform as the all-new Renault 5.

Designed in London at Nissan Design Europe, the new Micra will be built at the Ampere ElectriCity plant in France and will be available with two different battery options to provide a maximum range of up to 248 miles.

The new Micra will be followed by the third generation Nissan Leaf, which will be reborn as a crossover model based on the same platform as the larger Nissan Ariya.

The Leaf will be manufactured in the UK at Nissan’s state-of-the-art facility in Sunderland with the first cars rolling off the production line later this year.

It will then be joined in 2026 by the all-new Nissan Juke when it is relaunched as a pure EV, which will also be produced in the North East.

The third generation Juke is set to follow the bold design concept of previous versions of the car, as well as the Hyper Punk concept that was shown off back in 2023.

Away from new models, Nissan will introduce an upgraded version of the e-POWER hybrid that is featured in the Qashqai, improving emissions, efficiency and refinement for one of the best-selling models in the UK.

“As well as welcoming the return of the Micra as an EV and the third generation of our revolutionary LEAF, we’ve made significant steps with one of our most popular technologies,” David Moss, Senior Vice President, Region Research & Development for Nissan across Africa, Middle-East, India, Europe & Oceania, said.

“Having reinvented the hybrid with introduction of e-POWER by making it quieter and more responsive than a traditional hybrid, the forthcoming updates to e-POWER will make it even more efficient, more refined and closer overall to a pure EV-driving experience. It will remain the powertrain of choice for buyers who love the feel of driving electric, but don’t want to recharge.”
