Middlesbrough Storm To Success At Cardiff
Middlesbrough secured a top ten finish in the EFL Championship after condemning Cardiff City to their biggest home defeat of the season.
‘Boro made the trip to Wales on the back of a defeat away at Leeds United in the previous game, with the title hopefuls having picked up a 4-3 win in a seven-goal thriller at the Riverside.
Cardiff had chances early on in the game with Seny Dieng forced to tip over a shot from David Turnbull before Middlesbrough started to take control – with Emmanuel Latte Lath and Luke Thomas both having chances to open the scoring.
It was Matt Clarke who opened the scoring with his first goal of the season just before the break thanks to a header, with ‘Boro then taking control in a 15 minute spell at the start of the second half.
First up, Finn Azaz – who had set up the opener – was able to convert from close range before Latte Lath beat Cardiff ‘keeper Ethan Horvath with a cool finish to make it 3-0 to the visitors.
Alex Gilbert then steered in the fourth on the hour mark to leave ‘Boro in complete control and even though Cardiff got one back late on thanks to Josh Bowler, Michael Carrick’s side are now assured of a top ten finish with a single game left against Watford this coming weekend.
