Mercedes Tops Charts For Fastest Selling Used Cars
Mercedes-Benz topped the charts for the fastest selling used car in 2024, according to data released by Auto Trader.
The data revealed that the average used car took 30 days to sell, an improvement of two days compared the previous year, with used EV models selling slightly quicker than both petrol and diesel models.
Mercedes led the way when it came to the fastest selling used model, with the petrol hybrid GLB model taking on average just 16 days to find a new buyer – two weeks quicker than the average.
Alongside taking top spot in the rankings, Mercedes also took second spot with the A Class taking on average 16.5 days to sell.
That made the small hatchback the fastest selling non-SUV, as well as the fastest selling petrol car, with the top three completed by the hybrid Peugeot 3008.
Showing the increasing popularity of the brand, MG appeared in the top ten twice, with the MG HS in eighth place being the fastest-selling plug-in hybrid.
Mazda’s MX-30 was the fastest-selling electric model.
“Despite general tight belting at the moment, car buyers were still happy to indulge in premium used cars last year,” Auto Trader data and insight director Richard Walker said.
“Not only did Mercedes-Benz top the list, but most of 2024’s hottest used cars were pricier SUVs.
“We’ve entered January with real momentum, following a very positive market performance last year. Cars sold at a rapid pace, demand was very robust, and prices were stable.
“But 2024 really was the year of the used EV, especially for those ‘middle-aged’ models which have become more accessible than ever, helping demand rocket over the last twelve months or so.
“It shows that when the price is right, car buyers are more than happy to make the switch to electric.”
