Mercedes has taken the covers off a limited edition model that will launch its new Mythos series, and which will be limited to just 250 cars.

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed was revealed in Abu Dhabi during the final weekend of the Formula 1 season and has been designed as a ‘tribute to racing offering an unforgettable driving experience’.

The car features a unique design that incorporates a low front end with a shark nose with small deflectors to keep turbulence away from the driver and passenger.

That is key because the PureSpeed is an open-top machine with no roof or windscreen, with a HALO system similar to that seen on the Mercedes F1 machine being incorporated to improve safety.

A protective cover is provided for when the car is parked in inclement weather.

Power comes from a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, with the car also featuring active ride control suspension, ceramic brakes and an active rear-axle steering.

“The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is the most direct way to experience performance and fun at the wheel,” Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said.

“Thanks to the car’s radically open design with no roof or windscreen, nothing separates the driver and passenger from the elements, allowing them to fully appreciate the vehicle, the road and the landscape with all their senses.

“The striking design reinterprets elements of legendary racing cars and makes for a fascinating, timeless silhouette. In this way, the PureSpeed bundles the traditional strengths of AMG: highly emotional and very high performance vehicles that inspire – at a glance and behind the wheel.”
