Honda Celebrates 30 Years Of The CR-V

Honda has marked 30 years since the launch of the hugely popular CR-V with a special concept designed to ‘celebrate Honda's spirit of adventure’.

Inspired by capsule hotels found in Japan - which offer guests a sleeping pod that is usually no larger than a single bed - Honda created the bespoke ‘Dream Pod’ based on a plug-in hybrid CR-V, featuring sleeping space for two people and a range of specialist camping equipment.

The EGOE Nestboard 650 in-car camping kit was fitted into the rear of the car, meaning that when the rear seats are folded flat, a double bed is created with space for two.

Underneath the unit is a cooking stove, collapsible sink and storage for various kitchen utensils in order to be able to create quick meals on the go.

Inside, the Dream Pod was fitted with LED reading lights and pull-out side tables, along with USB charging points and special blinds for additional privacy.

Astrophotographer Benjamin Barakat was able to sample the Dream Pod first hand when he headed out into the Italian Alps to spend the night taking photographs of the night sky.

“The spirit of adventure has always been at the heart of the CR-V, a car which has championed family-friendly fun and versatility since its ground-breaking introduction in 1995,” Nik Pearson, general manager of corporate communications for Honda Europe, said.

“By combining car-like handling and comfort with SUV versatility, this is a model that single-handedly created the modern crossover sector. The ‘Dream Pod’ is therefore the perfect celebration of the CR-V’s pioneering success and its status as one of the world’s most popular SUVs.”
