Coming Soon: The New Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid And Highlander Hybrid SUVs
The latest generation of the Toyota RAV4 and the Toyota Highlander are set to hit showrooms really soon. This time, they’ll include Toyota’s new innovative and intelligent hybrid technology – making them more capable and more efficient than ever before.
The all-new models will draw on more than 20 years of Toyota leadership in hybrid powertrain technology.
The 5th generation RAV4 Plug-in will be the first plug-in hybrid version of the world’s best-selling SUV. The new Highlander Hybrid will be the first version of the popular large SUV to be sold in the UK.
Both models are highly anticipated for the number of excellent features and technology they bring to the table.
What’s new with the latest RAV4 Plug-in?
Toyota have said that their all-new RAV4 plug-in hybrid will be their most powerful RAV4 yet. The upcoming PHEV is said to reach 0 to 62 mph in just 6 seconds.
Equipped with Toyota's intelligent all-wheel drive system, the RAV4 plug-in hybrid combines the brand’s latest hybrid technology with a highly efficient 2.5 litre petrol engine.
The model’s default operating mode will be all-electric, with its new plug-in hybrid system enabling a 46-mile driving range on a full battery charge. Since the average daily commute is around 30 miles, this should more than cover the journey.
When driving on pure electric power, the new RAV4 will also be able to hit a top speed of 84mph - there’s nothing unimpressive about it.
Official fuel consumption is 282mpg with 22g/km CO2 emissions (WLTP combined cycle), securing a benefit-in-kind rate of just six per cent for company car tax payers.
The new RAV4 PHEV will be available in two equipment grades: Dynamic and Dynamic Premium.
Based on the equivalent RAV4 Hybrid specification, the RAV4 Plug-in Dynamic will offer 19-inch machined-face alloy wheels, nine-inch multimedia touchscreen, access to connected services, heated front and rear seats and LED projector headlights.
To support its EV capability, it will come with a 6.6kW (32A) cable for fast charging (wall box system required).
The Dynamic premium version adds features include black leather upholstery, front seats with ventilation and memory settings, panoramic roof, head-up display and JBL Premium Sound System.
Prices for the new RAV4 Plug In Dynamic will start from £47,395 (on-the-road), whilst from £50,895 for the Dynamic Premium model.
What do we know about the upcoming Highlander Hybrid?
The all-new Toyota Highlander Hybrid is the 4th generation of the brand’s large SUV, however it’s the first to be offered for sale in the UK.
Built on Toyota’s incredible GA-K platform, the Highlander is as SUV as it gets.
The all-new Highlander blends top levels of comfort with capability and agility. It also seats up to seven people and offers up Toyota’s exceptional 4th generation hybrid electric powertrain.
Two grades will be available: Excel and Excel Premium.
The Highlander Excel specification includes 20-inch alloy wheels, leather seat upholstery, three-zone air conditioning, a panoramic roof and a JBL Premium Sound System.
The Highlander Excel Premium model adds a head-up display, power tailgate with hands-free operation, heated rear seats, 360-degree camera and a different 20-inch alloy wheel design.
What’s not to love? The Excel model is set to be priced from around £50,595 on-the-road, while the Excel Premium model will be from around £52,575.
Orders for both the new Toyota models will be accepted from 4th January 2021, with deliveries to be expected from March onwards.
More details about both the new models will be revealed in the new year.
