BYD Makes History with World Urban Car Win at 2025 World Car Awards

BYD has taken home the prestigious World Urban Car title at the 2025 World Car Awards, held at the New York International Auto Show. The winning model, the BYD SEAGULL (also known as the DOLPHIN MINI), triumphed over 11 elite contenders from around the world, making BYD the first Chinese automotive brand to ever win a World Car Award.

This recognition isn't just a trophy for BYD, it's a powerful testament to its growing dominance in the new energy vehicle (NEV) market and its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and user-centred design.

The SEAGULL/DOLPHIN MINI evokes BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics design philosophy, bringing a fresh, vibrant, and approachable look to urban mobility. More than just a pretty face, the car impressed a panel of 96 international jurors with its blend of high safety standards, smart driving features, and a price tag that keeps it within reach for city drivers worldwide.

This win builds on BYD’s momentum from last year, when the BYD DOLPHIN was named a top-three finalist for the same category, and the BYD SEAL made it into the final trio for the coveted World Car of the Year award. In doing so, BYD became the first Chinese automaker to break into the top three of the overall competition.
