Audi Reveals Striking Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept
Audi has revealed a striking concept model based on the Q6, which has been designed to give a taste of what may be to come in the ‘progressive off-road segment’.
The Q6 e-tron offroad concept will be given a public debut at the annual F.A.T Ice Race at Zell Am See in Austria this weekend and certainly stands apart from the model on which it is based.
Ride height on the prototype model is increased by 6.3 inches to deal with the challenges provided by going off-road, whilst a 9.8 inch wider track provides a an aggressive stance and is vastly different to what is seen on the standard road car.
The concept features a two electric motor set-up for a combined power output of 380kW, whilst portal axles – only usually seen on extreme off-road machines – provide huge amounts of torque and allow the car to climb gradients of up to 45 degrees, or 100%.
As a comparison, Baldwin Street in New Zealand holds the Guinness World Record for the steepest street in the world, with a gradient of 34.8%.
The huge increase in torque – with a ten-second peak of 13,400 Nm – comes alongside a reduction in top speed to 108mph.
“The Q6 e-tron offroad concept is a reinterpretation of quattro,” Audi CEO Gernot Dollner said.
“The model shows the potential that our platform for all electric vehicles already has today. This vehicle can claim new ground. We look forward to seeing our customers’ reactions to this highly emotive car.”
